Joseph Ryan is the President and Founder of True North Advisory Group and an Adjunct Professor at The Wharton School. He has been affiliated with Wharton since 1991 and teaches in the MBA, EMBA, and in Executive Education programs in Philadelphia, San Francisco, and at INSEAD. He works with senior executives as an advisor on strategy and change management assignments, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
Joe’s teaching, consulting and research interests include leadership development, strategy
implementation, strategic alliances, service management, and best practices in change management and customized executive education.
He is currently writing a book on growth strategies and change management practices in companies outside the Fortune 500– Act Your
Way into a Growth Strategy: The Design, Structure, and Launch of Strategic Initiatives. The book is based on his long-term working
relationship as an advisor to four CEO’s currently leading growth and strategic change initiatives in the banking, information technology,
membership services, and travel businesses.
Joe has held management positions in strategic planning, business development and organization
development with GE, GTE, and ARAMARK. He has worked as a consultant in both the Kepner Tregoe Strategy Group and at the Wharton Center
for Applied Research. His clients span a wide range of industries including insurance, financial services, the securities industry,
travel, telecommunications, R&D, and the two largest membership organizations in the United States. He holds a Ph.D. from the
University of Pennsylvania, completed graduate business studies at The Wharton School, attended the GE Crotonville executive education
program, and attended the Leadership in Professional Services Program at the Harvard Business School.
